My Name is Patrick McCavery. I have been servicing scientific instruments full time since 1999, with some part time experience before this. I have had a little company of my own since 2006. In the past I have written my websites in the second person, as in "we". The company is just me and I feel pretentious using "we". This website may not sound as professional but it is intended to be honest. Since being out on my own, I have mostly been carrying out circuit board repairs and refurbishing and reselling spectrofluorometers, also known as fluorescence spectrophotometers and luminescence spectrometers. Before starting my own company, I worked for another company that sold a very large assortment of scientific instruments. Eventually the company ran into financial trouble. Before this occurred I had the opportunity to work on a large number of instruments, likely in excess of 200-250 different kinds of instruments, pretty much any instrument you would find in a scientific instrument supplier's catalog, from hot plates to NMRs. It was probably a case of jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none(I didn't fix the NMR) but I have specialized since and it was a very valuable learning experience. I find many instruments fascinating but my heart is in optical spectroscopy. Of all the instruments that I have worked on, the Aminco Bowman Series II spectrofluorometer is my favorite. I offer other spectrofluorometers as well, I have several that I have not finished posting to my website yet, I want to cross reference all of their parts first. I really do not take any pride in salesmanship. I have found it very easy to sell instruments by telling people what the worst features are first or shortly after telling them the best features. The number of phone calls I receive per month has dramatically dropped since I started in 2006 and days and even weeks can go by with no phone calls at all, everything is email these days. I love to talk about spectroscopy and if you want to call just to talk about spectroscopy, feel free, I never pressure anyone to buy anything and I just like to talk about this sort of thing for the sake of interest. Not really trying very hard to sell people stuff has worked out well and I am pretty much always busy. This website is being updated after more than 7 years or being ignored. It's likely that it will fall out of date again.
