I offer parts and a lamp rebuilding service for Aminco Bowman Series II spectrofluorometers. The lamp assembly consists of a fan, a XE bulb and a lens. If you are not sure if your lamp assembly needs rebuilding, you want to send it out for rebuilding or you want to buy the parts to rebuild it yourself, you will need to remove the top cover. Please see Procedures for removal procedure. I have never seen a fan fail but I recommend replacing them if this has never been done before as they are not very expensive and the repercussions can be quite serious if they fail, the lamp assembly housing can melt. Near the front left of the instrument you will find an hour counter. This will tell you a lot about your instrument. If the value is under 1000 hours, you might need a rebuilt assembly but you shouldn't really need one if everyone has been following the shutdown procedure. If you are at or over 1000 hours, you will likely need a new XE bulb. There is normally a log glued to the lamp assembly vent tube. You can also see when and at what hours the lamp was changed at. A properly cared for lamp should be good for about 1000 hours but the total life is application specific. If you hour count is over 2000, you might want to consider replacing the lens in the assembly. If you remove the lens, clean it and hold it up to the light, you will likely see that it looks frosted. The UV light from the lamp is extremely intense and will damage the lens in a process known as solarization. I can offer the XE bulbs, fans and lenses separately or I can rebuild everything here and test the assembly.
